The Hunger Games Chapter Summary

The hunger games is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where natural disasters and nuclear war have left only one country, called Panem, situated in North America. This country is made up of 12 districts, ruled by an oppressive city called the Capitol.  In order to keep its citizens downtrodden, the Capitol runs a competition called the Hunger Games each year. In this competition, a girl and a boy from each district between the ages of 12 and 18, are selected randomly to compete in a fight to the death, with the last one standing declared the winner. The Hunger games take place in a huge arena, kilometers wide, and are broadcast to the entire country, who must watch them. The main character is called Katniss. She takes part in the hunger games, and it is her struggle for survival, and rebellion against the capitol that is the main focus of the story.
The Hunger Games is a great piece of speculative fiction. Suzanne Collins has created a world that is a reflection on our world today, and a story about rebellion and freedom. She also explores how low humans will sink in order to stay alive. I would use the TV show as a medium to tell the story, because it is a useful way to convey important information, and the juxtaposition of the horrible sights of children killing each other, with the cheerful, unfeeling commentary of the hosts highlights the cruelty of the situation. I would highlight the presence of the capitol by showing little camera drones moving around the arena.
